The Emery County travel office said it is pursuing a national high-school mountain-biking series race in 2027 and is preparing local businesses and trails to host the influx. Lacey, an events coordinator, told the board the series would bring "about 3,000 people" including "1,000 racers" and their families and that the office will work with lodging and food vendors to capitalize on the expected visitation.
The meeting framed the race as both an economic opportunity and an operational challenge. Staff said they will use a workshop Thursday (5:30'8:30 p.m.) to train event coordinators who want travel-office funding; the workshop includes breakout sessions and a Zoom option for those who cannot attend in person. "If someone specifically wants to Zoom in, we did ask everybody be in person because it's like a working...there's gonna be breakout sessions," a staff member said.
The travel office also outlined a broader events and marketing approach: maintain two public-facing social pages (one for local events and one for travel/tourism), normalize usernames so both appear in searches, expand boosted posts more efficiently with assistance from staff named Robin, and launch a TikTok account aimed at younger demographics. Staff said they will meet monthly with marketing and event personnel to coordinate which posts to boost and which events to prioritize.
The board was told the national race would require trail readiness and careful staging; staff said some early scouting and smaller races in 2026 will help build the course before the 2027 event. The office also reminded potential applicants that the event-training workshop Thursday is required for groups seeking event funding or operational support from the travel office.
The office plans further coordination at next month's meeting, including contracting items and promotional calendars; formal approval of specific funding allocations was not taken at the working meeting.
