CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Senate received a committee report Jan. 15 on Senate Bill 42, a proposal to permit over‑the‑counter sales of ivermectin.
Brian Helton, chair of the Senate Health and Human Resources Committee, told the floor the committee "has had under consideration Senate Bill 42 authorizing over the counter sell of ivermectin and reports the same back with the recommendation that it do pass, but under the original double committee reference, first be referred to the committee on the judiciary." Helton submitted the report to the Senate without indicating a committee vote tally.
The committee recommendation moves the measure forward in the legislative process by formally urging passage while sending the bill to the Judiciary Committee for additional review required by the chamber's double committee reference rules. No floor debate or final Senate vote on SB 42 occurred during the Jan. 15 session.
Next steps: Under the committee report, Senate Bill 42 is to be referred to the Judiciary Committee for consideration before any further action on the Senate floor.
