Blue Earth County finance staff presented the county’s fiscal-year-end financial status and highlighted revenue and fund-balance changes.
Bob, presenting the report, said total revenue for the year came in at $173,200,000 against expenses of $167,600,000. He noted state and federal revenues were higher than expected and that interest on investments outperformed budget projections. The county increased its planned bond amount from $10 million (as in the approved budget) to $30 million, which accounted for a significant variance in other financing sources.
Enterprise operations at the Ponderosa Landfill finished in the black with $6.1 million in revenue versus $5.9 million in expenses. Bob said the library closed the year with an approximate $13,000 deficit in its fund balance and described that as not catastrophic but a point of concern. He also reported the human services fund balance declined from about $13.1 million in December to $8.9 million due to departmental deficits.
Board members had no substantive questions during the presentation. Staff offered to answer follow-up questions and to bring further details if commissioners request them.
