Chester County's planning staff updated council on a zoning text amendment (CCTA25-17) intended to regulate electronic cigarette and vape shops and related products. Planning staff described changes added since first reading, including explicit mention of synthetic marijuana, cannabis products and CBD to avoid regulatory loopholes. The sheriff and staff at SLED were consulted and their concerns noted.
Planning staff clarified that the current zoning amendment applies to new vape shops only and does not affect existing, grandfathered businesses. Council members discussed additional future action on the sign ordinance to address flashing LED signs and other safety concerns, which could apply to existing businesses if enacted.
Council approved the amendment on third reading by voice vote.
