Committee renews Arizona Beef Council and State Veterinary Examining Board charters for eight years

PHOENIX — The Senate Natural Resources Committee on Thursday advanced two routine continuation bills that would extend the statutory life of agricultural and professional boards.

Senate Bill 11‑98 would continue the Arizona Beef Council for eight years, to July 1, 2034. Lauren Maling, executive director of the Arizona Beef Council, appeared before the committee to answer questions and provide an update on the council’s work. The committee moved and approved SB 11‑98 with a due‑pass recommendation (committee recorded a 7‑0 favorable tally with one senator not voting in committee).

Senate Bill 11‑99 would continue the Arizona State Veterinary Examining Board for eight years, also to July 1, 2034. Committee members used the discussion to highlight concerns over a declining veterinarian workforce in rural Arizona, particularly for large‑animal practice. Several members urged looking for targeted funding or programs to bolster rural veterinary capacity. The committee approved SB 11‑99 with a due‑pass recommendation.

Both continuation bills were described by sponsors as routine committee actions that give the Legislature time to perform oversight and to consider reforms when appropriate. The committee sent both measures forward for further consideration in the legislative process.
