The funds are targeted to expand classroom and locker room space and to repair and restore a driving track used for public‑safety training.
Northland Pioneer College representatives said the facility serves a broad rural area covering Apache and Navajo counties and partners with more than 20 public‑safety agencies. Rich Chanick of NPC described the projects as necessary to expand capacity for policing, fire science and EMT/paramedic programs that provide local workforce opportunities and public‑safety benefits to communities that have limited access to training resources.
Members asked about overlap with other regional training initiatives; witnesses said the Taylor facility serves regional partners and accepts students statewide. The bill was given a due‑pass recommendation following discussion and several explained votes.
