Brian Tacinelli, speaking for the Arizona Police Association, described the program as a successful resource that helps firefighters, police officers and other crime‑scene personnel manage trauma exposure and return to duty safely. The bill removes the sunset provision and formally recognizes crime‑scene technicians and forensic technicians as eligible public‑safety employees under the program.
Committee members voiced support, noting the growing mental‑health demands on first responders. The committee recorded a unanimous or near‑unanimous do‑pass recommendation and adjourned.
If enacted, the bill would make the traumatic‑event counseling program permanent and expand eligibility to more personnel who regularly encounter graphic material and traumatic scenes.
