Okemos board approves consent agenda, hires and contracts; adopts final policies

Trustee Phillips moved to approve consent items 1' 4, which included approval of minutes (regular and executive session), acknowledgment of the November financial statement and payment of bills, and the employment of three new hires for Okemos Public Schools: Samantha Wolford Delno (high school counselor, start noted as 11/24/2025 in materials), Louise Henderson (fifth-grade teacher at Kennewah, start Dec. 15), and Jason M. Brown (special education resource teacher at Hiawatha Elementary, start Jan. 5). Trustee Phelps moved a small amendment to correct attendance notation; the amendment carried and the amended consent agenda passed unanimously (seven-zero).
The board then voted to waive the reading and adopt a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Meridian Township for a Senior Center partnership (moved by Trustee Cavanaugh, supported by Trustee Shrestha) and to authorize the superintendent to enter pre-bond contracts with Veridis, Christman, and Tower Pinkster for long-range planning (moved by Trustee Phelps, supported by Trustee Cavanaugh); both actions passed seven-zero.
Trustee Daugherty moved to waive the reading and adopt final readings of board policies 4408, 4409, 5202 (unlawful discrimination, harassment, and retaliation against students), 5405 (Title I parent and family engagement), and 5406 (Title I funds); the motion carried by unanimous vote.
Board votes on these motions were announced in open session with trustees indicating unanimous support at the time of each vote. Following regular business, the board moved into a work session to continue the superintendent search process.
