Board approves purchase of 75 student laptops to address enrollment growth

Trustees voted unanimously to purchase 75 additional student laptops to meet rising enrollment and to replenish the district’s inventory of warrantied permanent devices.
Director Isom told the board that the district previously purchased devices for grades five through 12 and that enrollment increases caused the district to exhaust its pool of permanent machines. While the vendor (Travera) provided about 200 spare machines, those units carry different warranty terms and are used only as temporary replacements. Isom asked the board to approve up to 75 new Lenovo Yoga 13 laptops (Gen 6) with four-year warranties and accidental-damage protection, at a unit price of $1,200 for a not-to-exceed total of $90,000.
Trustees first voted to waive Policy 2503(a) so the board could act at this meeting; the purchase motion—moved and seconded as recorded—passed on a roll-call vote with all trustees recorded in favor (7–0). Administration said the purchase will be funded from the district’s 2022 bond technology allocation.
Board members asked for clarifications about device specifications and warranty parity with earlier purchases; Isom said the newer generation has similar RAM, storage and screen size and that students would not notice a difference for routine classroom use. Administration will include the purchase in the district’s procurement records and proceed with the vendor under the state and national bid contract terms.
