“Literally went into a secure mode across the district, and 5 minutes later, we're out of it because of the fast action of our first response community,” Landry said, praising the sheriff’s office and local police for their quick work. He urged ongoing attention to ALICE training, lockdown procedures and clear communications with staff and families, and said adult staff are the first line of defense in school emergencies.
Landry asked the board and community to keep the neighboring district in their thoughts and reiterated the district’s commitment to regular safety reviews, annual building visits and training for staff and resource officers. The district reported no public comments on the incident during the meeting; Landry emphasized the emotional and operational burden that such incidents place on educators.
