In routine business Wednesday the Douglas County Board approved a series of resolutions covering donations, grants, permits, payroll items and board appointments.
Donations and veterans services Sheriff Troy Wolverson asked the board to accept a $100 donation from Karma Tucker designated for the sheriff’s K‑9 unit; the board adopted resolution 26‑18 to accept the gift. Veterans Services Officer Jacob Turner reported three donations intended to offset the cost of a veterans’ vehicle: $2,500 from the Fergus Falls chapter of the Disabled American Veterans (resolution 26‑19), $100 from Richard and Marie Merton (resolution 26‑20), and a combined $9,608.02 from private and business donors (resolution 26‑21). Turner said the vehicle will be fully covered through donations and insurance.
Grant applications and program funding Nick Larson sought county sponsorship for a state grant to replace a tractor used by Data Trails; he said the project totals $76,000 with a $52,000 grant request and a 25% local match (about $13,000) from Data Trails’ charities funds. The board approved resolution 26‑22 to submit the grant application. Community Human Services Director Tabitha reported Douglas County will receive $21,891 in NextGen employment‑services grant funds (a federal pass‑through via the Minnesota Department of Children, Youth, and Families) to expand employment services for noncustodial parents; the board approved resolution 26‑24 to accept the contract. Tabitha also asked the board to accept five backpack care packages donated for foster youth (resolution 26‑25).
Other approvals - Auditor‑Treasurer Vicky approved two lawful gambling permits: Christina Lake Longbeards (March 7 raffle) and Dragonfly Mental Wellness Foundation (March 22 raffle); the board approved both permits by resolution (26‑26, 26‑27). - County HR requested authorization to recruit seasonal staff (watercraft inspectors, parks maintenance, election assistants) and the board approved the hires and adopted resolution 26‑23 setting minimum salaries for specified elected offices. - Finance Director Jill presented bills totaling $4,685,121.84, which included settlement and debt service payments; the board approved payment. - Commissioner Tim moved, and the board approved, the reappointment of Sarah Richards to the Lakeland Mental Health Center board.
