The Aurora Finance Committee voted 5-0 on Sept. 26 to accept a $600,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources under the 2024 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development program for improvements to Garfield Park (resolution 24-0718).
Gio Santana, superintendent of parks and recreation, told the committee the city had sought the grant the previous year and was successful; the committee was being asked only to accept the award. "We were successful in receiving the grant, so now we are seeking authorization to accept the grant," Santana said. Committee members had no substantive questions and moved to approve the acceptance.
The resolution passed unanimously. Staff will coordinate grant administration and project planning for Garfield Park improvements under the terms of the IDNR award.
