The Alba Independent School District board voted to approve the recommended calendar for the next school year after a presentation and discussion of three proposed options. Speaker 4 recommended approving a calendar that starts on Aug. 13, provides 163 teaching days and builds in 10 professional-development days, and schedules the last day of school for May 19 followed by two professional development days and graduation on May 21.
Speaker 5 moved to approve and the motion was seconded. The roll-call-style responses recorded in the transcript show board members Hansen, Payne, McDermott, Singleton and Hart each answering "Yes," recording approval on the record.
The approved calendar preserves a full week for spring break and two weeks for the winter holiday, and includes three nights of parent-teacher conferences (fall and spring) and additional half-day professional-development opportunities to support instructional improvement. District staff said the calendar includes 10 PD days although accreditation rules require only five.
