Trustees approve $18,000 purchase order for new police K-9 and training

Brimfield Township trustees approved a purchase order authorizing $18,000 to procure a new police K-9 and cover a six-week training and boarding program.

Chief Mosley presented the police department's 2025 annual report and requested board approval of the PO payable to the vendor noted in the packet for the purchase and training of a replacement K-9. Chief Mosley and trustees discussed the current K-9, Recon, whom the chief estimated to be about 8— years old and nearing retirement. The chief said training for the new dog is expected to start in April, with an initial brief meet-and-greet followed by the six-week certification period.

Trustees asked about vendor location and timing; the chief identified the vendor as based in Wapakoneta and said he would provide more concrete dates as they become available. After questions, the board moved, seconded, and approved the purchase order by roll call.

What comes next: Staff will finalize vendor scheduling and training dates and notify trustees when the new K-9 is ready for pickup and deployment.
