Commission approves $999,975 contract for 12,000 West road improvements

After reviewing two bids for the 12,000 West Road Improvements project, Duchesne County commissioners voted to award the contract to Staker Parson Companies doing business as Burdick Materials for $999,975.00.

A county staff member recommending the award told commissioners that both bidders submitted required documentation and that the apparent low bid from Burdick Materials was well below the county engineer’s estimate. “After reviewing the bids, our recommendation is that you award the 12,000 West Road Improvements project to Staker Parson Companies doing business as Burdick Materials, with a total price of $999,975.00,” the staff member said.

Commission discussion was brief. A commissioner moved to accept the low bid and a second was recorded; the chair called for the ayes and the motion carried by voice vote. No recorded no votes or abstentions were announced during the public meeting.

The contract award follows standard county procurement review: staff confirmed both bidders provided required forms and the apparent low bid fell within a favorable range relative to the county’s engineer estimate. Commissioners discussed coordination for on-site work and traffic impacts during paving, including shoulder work on North Crescent and other scheduled paving segments.

The project budget and contract documents were not fully read into the record during the motion discussion; commissioners asked staff to proceed with contract signing and to circulate final documents to the commission and county staff after execution. The county indicated it will continue to coordinate scheduling so approaches and local access remain open during short windows of construction.

Next steps: staff will finalize contract paperwork with Burdick Materials and schedule on-site mobilization according to the county’s project plan and paving windows.
