Commission approves court-security contract with state; reserve-pay review deferred

The sheriff’s office representative told the commission the state contract, which reimburses the county for courthouse security, is in the neighborhood of $109,728.78 and will expire in about three weeks. Commissioners indicated the agreement has functioned well in prior years and moved to approve the contract. A commissioner offered to sign the agreement on behalf of the board and staff confirmed the county attorney’s signature will also be required for final execution.
Separately, the sheriff asked for two additional weeks before the commission considered a proposed wage increase for reserve deputies so the department could prepare cost estimates and an implementation policy. Commissioners agreed and postponed that agenda item for two weeks to allow staff to present numbers and a formal procedure.
Next steps: county attorney will sign the contract as required and the sheriff will return within two weeks with a reserve-wage proposal and policy recommendations.
