Commission OKs approach permits with conditions after town and landowner checks

A majority of the Duchesne County Commission on June 9 approved a set of driveway and commercial approach permits while attaching conditions to protect neighboring property owners and municipal planning interests.

Staff presented several requests for approaches to county roads, including residential drives and a commercial approach in the Moondance area. Commissioners and staff discussed access that would abut private lots and flagged one request that would place a new county approach where it could affect parcel lines and require coordination with the adjacent town’s street network.

To address those concerns, the commission approved the permits with three caveats: the applicant must provide documentation from affected private landowners confirming agreement with the access; county staff must confirm any municipal impacts with the town of Altamont (referred to in the meeting as Altamonte/Alba); and Roger Ames (county engineering) must confirm appropriate culvert sizing for irrigation ditches affected by the approach. The motion was made and seconded on the record and carried by voice vote.

Commissioners said the requirements strike a balance between allowing property access and protecting adjoining property owners and municipal planning. Staff was directed to return signed permits only after evidence of the required approvals has been received.

Next steps: staff will follow up with the applicants to collect the landowner documentation and municipal clearance before final permit issuance.
