Planning commission informed of city committee restructure and public input for former police station

City planning staff updated the Planning Commission on two procedural and engagement items: a change in the city council committee structure and ongoing public outreach for the former police station site.
Ellen explained that the city has moved from three standing council committees to a single Committee of the Whole, and that planning commission recommendations will now go to that body rather than the former Planning and Development committee. She also urged commissioners to take an online public survey about the former police station site and noted an in-person open house scheduled for Feb. 19 from 4–6 p.m. as an opportunity for public feedback.
Staff said a consultant has been hired to support the process and that a phase 2 of public input is anticipated but not yet finalized; staff indicated a design charrette or similar events may be part of later phases. Commissioners asked whether there would be additional in-person meetings beyond the survey and the initial open house; staff replied details are still being developed and offered to circulate the survey link to commissioners.
Staff also noted there will likely be no second meeting this month; the first meeting in March is expected to be the next regular session.
