Saint Charles recognizes students, creatives and small business with Spirit of St. Charles awards
Summary
Council members presented the Spirit of St. Charles awards to Grace (youth), photographer Drew Patel (1st Ward) and local business owner Anthony Harrison (Harry Anne). Coach Potter and city leaders also honored state wrestling champion Dom Moreno.
The Saint Charles City Council opened its meeting by honoring community members during the Spirit of St. Charles awards.
Council Member Mark Folkes presented the youth award to Grace, praising her leadership, a 4.5 GPA (weighted 4.86) and wide-ranging extracurricular work that includes dance, mentoring, student council, mock trial and FCCLA. Grace thanked her parents, grandparents, teachers and coaches.
First Ward Alderman Ron Salkaitis presented photographer and digital creator Drew Patel with the Ward award, noting Patel’s photography of downtown Saint Charles and the Fox River valley, his professional work and community involvement. Patel accepted the recognition and thanked the mayor and council.
The council also presented a business award to Anthony Harrison of the Harry Anne, a Saint Charles screen-printing business founded in 2008. Folkes highlighted Harrison’s local roots, the business’s capacity for large and small orders and its work supplying school and civic teams. Harrison and family thanked the council and noted the business’s presence in the community.
Separately, the council honored Dom Moreno for his IHSA state wrestling achievement at 120 pounds, including back-to-back state championships. Coach Potter praised Moreno’s leadership and dominance and credited local community support, including team gear produced by Anthony Harrison. The council indicated an honorary street sign recognizing Moreno’s championships will be installed.
The honors portion closed with a note that City Hall’s lighting was orange that evening in tribute to the dance team.
