Franklin County approves consent agenda with $1.66 million payroll; staff outlines early budget work

FRANKLIN COUNTY — The Franklin County Board of Commissioners approved a consent agenda on Feb. 4 that included meeting minutes and claim and payroll disbursements, while staff briefed the board on several administrative items including budget preparation.
The consent agenda covered the Jan. 28, 2026 meeting minutes; claim vouchers totaling $249,539.27; special claim vouchers totaling $8,347; and payroll in the amount of $1,660,292.40. Commissioners recorded affirmative votes approving the consent items.
During staff reports, a county staff member identified as Sabrina said she has a meeting scheduled with Diana Starsnick Dean of the Franklin County Historical Society to discuss potential storage building options. Sabrina also reported that the county’s tax sale remains on hold while countywide software issues are reconciled and noted that the clerk and treasurer have been working on reconciliation efforts.
Sabrina said county staff have begun 'pretty deep' work on the budget and that leadership aims to present a revenue-neutral budget that still addresses capital needs, including equipment replacement and elevator modernization. "As I sit here today, yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic," a staff member said about initial budget work.
Staff also reported outreach to community partners; materials were sent to entities funded last year and a meeting was scheduled for March 30 for presentations to the commissioners. County staff noted ballots are in print for a nearby Princeton sales tax election and that early voting and advance ballots will be issued in the coming weeks.
The board adjourned after routine commissioner updates.
