Selma reports: clean audit, senior prom, fire recruitment and upcoming Blossom Trail

At the Feb. 3 Selma City Council meeting, several departmental reports highlighted recent wins and near‑term events.

Finance Director Moreno reported a clean audit for the special tax street fund and the Road Maintenance and Rehabilitation Account for fiscal year 2023–24, following a four‑week state controllers' review. "It resulted in a clean audit and that the city was in full compliance with all requirements," Moreno said.

Community Services Director described a successful senior prom at the Portuguese Hall, thanking local partners for donations and volunteers; staff estimated about 20 raffle items and confirmed annualization of the event. The director also announced a new full‑time recreation/community services coordinator and an animal services manager starting the following week.

Fire Chief Webster reported submitting an Office of Traffic Safety grant request for auto‑extrication equipment and said final interviews concluded for firefighter recruitment with a strong candidate pool.

Public Information Officer Moreno reminded the public of the Blossom Trail opening Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at the Selma Art Center, produced with the Chamber of Commerce and city staff.

Public Works Director Hunt updated the council on downtown planters near 2nd and 1st Streets and noted staff attendance at the World of Concrete trade show for targeted training for street maintenance personnel. City Manager David reported ongoing meetings with developers, tactical urbanism pilot plans for temporary speed cushions near schools and midyear budget work with department heads.
