Council interviews Linda Carroll for Planning Commission seat; vote set for next week

Linda Carroll, put forward by the Community Assembly for a seat on the Spokane Planning Commission, told council members she has deep family roots in Spokane, local schooling and university credentials she said would inform commission work.
Carroll described a long academic career — including undergraduate studies at Gonzaga and Princeton and graduate degrees from Harvard — and said she has taught at Gonzaga and Tulane. She said her professional interest in urban density and governance makes the city’s 20-year plan work a natural fit for her expertise.
Carroll also outlined civic service relevant to the appointment: she is completing a second term on the STA citizens advisory committee, serves on her neighborhood council and is the Community Assembly representative, where she sits on the budget and land-use committees. "I'm pretty well versed in governance," she said.
Council member Zappone and others thanked Carroll for her service and recommended her for the Planning Commission. The council president said no action was required today and that the council will take a formal vote on the appointment at its next meeting.
