CapMetro board unanimously approves agency safety plan required by FTA

The CapMetro Board unanimously approved a resolution Dec. 17 adopting the agency’s Public Transportation Agency Safety Plan (PTASP), which CapMetro staff said is required by the Federal Transit Administration and covers bus and demand-response services.
Jafari Boden, director of safety, presented the PTASP as a ‘‘structured, data-driven approach’’ to identify and mitigate safety risks. He outlined the plan’s four pillars—safety policy, safety risk management, safety assurance and safety promotion—and said the current plan had no major changes after annual review. Minor clarifications include updated interlocal agreement language, removal of the "bus operator assault group" (now under the security committee), and updates to safety performance targets.
Boden said the PTASP had been reviewed and formally approved by the joint labor-management safety committee and asked the board for approval. A motion to adopt the resolution was moved and seconded; the board approved the plan unanimously.
Ending: The board directed staff to finalize and execute the plan and to provide relevant reporting to the board as part of ongoing safety management; no additional changes were adopted at the meeting.
