Crestview recognizes new city clerk Natasha Peacock and approves Trailblazer grant for animal control officer

Crestview — At its Jan. 26 meeting the Crestview City Council formally recognized Natasha Peacock for earning the Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) designation and approved a Trailblazer grant to cover travel and conference fees for an animal control officer.

Leslie Geier, Northwest District Director of the Florida Association of City Clerks and city clerk of Gulf Breeze, presented Peacock's certification and noted the CMC designation "reflects a commitment to professional excellence and continuing education in public administration, management, and Grama Achievement." Geier encouraged the city to display the pin and plaque as symbols of dedication and professionalism.

Separately, staff said the Trailblazer grant is modest and intended to assist with professional development for an animal control officer who will travel to receive an award. The city manager explained the officer (Officer Healy) was not present and will be recognized in April after receiving the award, at which time staff will present photos. Councilmembers moved and seconded approval of the grant and the motion carried unanimously.

The newly certified city clerk provided a brief clerk's report noting the upcoming Mardi Gras parade. The city manager also gave an operations update: the city closed on the purchase of "The Rock" in December, the facility is in limited use for basketball while floors, railings and other minor improvements are completed, and the Arts and Learning Center project will return to the CRA for code improvement grant consideration after structural issues were addressed.

What happens next: Natasha Peacock will be publicly recognized and presented with her CMC plaque; the animal control officer will be recognized following the award presentation and the city will proceed with minor improvements and planning for a grand opening at "The Rock."
