Austin staff brief Mobility Committee on updated municipal maintenance agreement with TxDOT

Chair Council Member Paige Ellis opened item 2 and asked staff to summarize the city’s updated municipal maintenance agreement with the Texas Department of Transportation. Richard Mendoza, Director of Transportation and Public Works, said the draft replaces the city’s 1986 MMA and ‘‘the new MMA will cover maintenance responsibilities between the city and the TxDOT on these primarily, following asset items.’’
Mendoza told the committee the revision clarifies which agency is responsible for pavements and bridges (resurfacing, rehabilitation and preventative maintenance), roadside maintenance (mowing, sweeping, litter removal), traffic signs and most pavement markings, street lighting, pedestrian facilities (sidewalks and ramps), shared‑use paths and drainage facilities.
