Committee backs repeal of planned unit development at 1100 Wicomico Street

Baltimore City’s Land Use and Transportation Committee voted to report Council Bill 25-00074 favorable, recommending to the full council that the planned unit development (PUD) for 1100 Wicomico Street be repealed. Sponsor Councilwoman Felicia Porter said community groups including Citizens of Pigtown and the Carroll-Camden Association submitted letters of support.
Porter told the committee developers have worked with her office for the past year and that the repeal removes an obsolete zoning exception. Planning staff said they had originally staffed the PUD when it was created in 2006 to allow uses not then permitted under industrial zoning; after the citywide comprehensive rezoning, the underlying IMU-1 zoning now provides the needed uses and the PUD is no longer necessary.
The law department approved the bill for form and legal sufficiency. Stephanie Murdock of DHCD said her department stands by a favorable bill report. No public testimony was offered. The sponsor moved the bill and the committee voted 'aye' to move the repeal favorable; it will be recommended to the full council for second reader.
