Superintendent proposes 2025-26 goals: Little Ferry partnership, special-education focus and financial oversight

Superintendent Dr. Vespignani presented three proposed district goals for 2025-26 to the Ridgefield Park Public School District board on July 16 and outlined proposed major activities and reporting benchmarks. He said the goals were developed from board feedback and part of his evaluation process.

Goal 1 would create a data-driven educational framework in partnership with Little Ferry to align instruction, curricula and student supports to improve transitions and college- and career-readiness. "We purposely aligned our professional development calendars," Dr. Vespignani said, describing shared learning walks and teacher articulation meetings as possible activities.

Goal 2 focuses on special-education improvements through data-driven progress monitoring, evidence-based interventions and professional development on inclusive practices. Dr. Vespignani cited recommendations from Bergen County program specialists and suggested site visits to districts showing stronger outcomes for students with disabilities.

Goal 3 intends to optimize financial operations and strategic resource management. The superintendent noted the district recently created a financial-analyst position and said the administration will provide clearer board-level financial updates and monitoring tools. "We're going to be looking at ways to elevate the district's financial management," he said.

Trustees asked for clarity about metrics and equity across Ridgefield Park and Little Ferry students, how the district would measure progress for special-education students (emphasizing short-term growth/pulse checks before proficiency changes), and how these initiatives would be scheduled alongside the district's professional-development plan. Dr. Vespignani said action plans with responsibilities, timelines and evidence would be brought to committees and that he would report benchmarks in November, January and March.
