Kuna council narrows where pole signs may be built, approves zoning text amendment

Planning and Zoning Director Doug Hansen presented a zoning text amendment (case 25‑02‑OA) proposing modifications to sign regulations for pole signs (also transcribed as "poll signs"). Hansen said the amendment would limit where pole signs may be constructed — principally to State Highway 69/Meridian Road commercial corridors — and require special‑use permit review so the city can evaluate impacts on neighboring residential properties and tree canopy.
Hansen told council the change is intended to protect property values and neighborhood character while allowing readable, well‑maintained signage in appropriate commercial zones. He said lawfully constructed existing pole signs would become legal nonconforming and remain in place.
Council closed evidence, deliberated without public testimony and voted to approve the zoning text amendment. Hansen stated that the rules will require special‑use permits for new pole signs and limit their placement to specified commercial zones.
