Cornerstone Community Church previews exterior plans for expansion at 14740 Liberty Street

City staff said the property retains a historic-landmark designation, so any exterior changes will require review and supporting elevations. The applicant said the existing sanctuary (about 3,900 sq ft) will not be expanded but that an attached metal building would add roughly 3,000–3,500 sq ft of classrooms and restrooms. The applicant asked for confirmation that a metal-clad addition could be made to read as visually cohesive with the historic building before commissioning full, costly construction plans.
"For their existing building is about 4,000, 3,900 square feet. And we're looking to add probably 3,000 to 3,500 classrooms and bathrooms. And we're not changing the sanctuary size to increase the people," the applicant said.
Staff advised the applicants to submit professional plans, a soil sample and permit applications for formal review; staff also said they would re-confirm historic-preservation details with the Historical Society (for example, whether the historic designation applied to the land or the original building fabric). The applicant said an earlier resurfacing/maintenance effort on the site had been carried out after consultation with previous city staff and requested clarity before committing to detailed architectural plans and bids.
No formal action was taken; staff and applicants agreed the next steps are a soil test, professional plans and return to the commission and council as required.
