Major Leader Rodriguez moved and the Senate agreed to lay SJR 007 (recognizing February 2026 as Black History Month) over until Tuesday, 02/03/2026. He also moved to lay Senate Bill 004 over until Monday, 02/02/2026; both layover motions were approved by voice vote. No roll-call tallies were read for the layover motions beyond the chamber’s voice agreement.
Senator Amabile announced that the Joint Budget Committee (JBC) would meet across the street upon adjournment to vote on four bills, and she spoke briefly about a recent, successful medical procedure and thanked colleagues for outreach. Senator Coleman requested a moment to recognize AIA Colorado’s 150th anniversary and read a tribute highlighting the association’s roughly 2,600 members and its work with higher-education institutions and mentorship programs. The chamber offered applause.
Senator Sullivan spoke at personal privilege about his son Alex, who was killed in the Aurora theater massacre; Sullivan briefly recounted personal traditions and memorialized his son in remarks to the chamber. Members were reminded of floor rules for introducing guests, and a ceremonial “capital choir” sang happy birthday for several senators with interim birthdays.
Major Leader Rodriguez then moved that the Senate adjourn until 10 a.m. Monday, 02/02/2026; the motion carried and the Senate recessed/adjourned to that date and time.
