House approves journal; committees forward several bills to appropriations or committee of the whole

The House convened and approved the journal of Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026. Representative Stewart moved that "the journal of Thursday, 01/29/2026 be approved as corrected by the chief clerk," the chamber responded by voice vote and the Speaker declared the motion adopted.
Committee reports followed. A representative of the Committee on Education reported that House Bill 1016 (Buford) was recommended favorably to the Committee on Appropriations; House Bill 1027, as amended, and House Bill 1050, as amended, were recommended for consideration by the Committee of the Whole with a favorable recommendation. Separately, the Committee on State, Civic, Military, and Veterans Affairs reported that House Bill 1022 be amended and referred to the Committee on Appropriations with a favorable recommendation. Later in the session, the Madam Majority Leader moved "to lay over the balance of the calendar until Monday, 02/02/2026." The Speaker, noting no objections, ordered the balance of the calendar laid over to that date.
