Harrison VFW donates to first responders and youth programs; Hilltop Performance outlines relocation plans

Calvin Klein, an officer with the Harrison VFW, came forward during presentations to announce charitable checks and recent donations. He said the VFW and its charities fund provided $1,000 each to the Harrison Fire Department and Harrison Police Department, $1,500 to the mayor's fund, and additional smaller donations to youth sports and after-prom programs. Klein described prior and additional $5,000 donations toward police and fire fundraising projects and encouraged other local groups to contribute.
Separately, Brian O'Connell, counsel for Hilltop Performance, told council that Hilltop has operated in Harrison for more than 20 years and acknowledged recent criticism over parking congestion at the business lot. He said his client purchased a larger property about 3½ years ago, has been constructing a new shop for roughly four months, and expects to open at the new location "sometime in February," asking the council and community for patience while the business transitions and reduces cars at the existing site.
O'Connell said Hilltop believes its current use is in compliance with zoning, but the company recognizes the parking situation is not ideal and will work to move cars out of the congested lot as the new facility comes online.
