Metro Parks approves signage and consent agenda, details storm recovery and facility reopening plans

At its February meeting the Metropolitan Board of Parks and Recreation approved several routine items and heard operational updates tied to recent winter storm damage.
By voice vote the board approved the minutes for January, accepted staff recommendations on the consent agenda (with the Valentine's Day jazz picnic removed after staff notice), and approved a double-sided lighted sign from the Nashville Convention and Visitors Corporation for Walk of Fame Park, valued at $12,500.
Director Odom told the board that FY27 budget submissions are due Friday, Feb. 6, and that Metro Parks is aligning requests to departmental priorities. She reported widespread tree damage across the park system from the recent storm, intermittent power disturbances at several facilities, and that cleanup operations have begun but are expected to take months rather than weeks. In coordination with partner departments, Metro Parks has opened three warming shelters at Bellevue Community Center, Southeast Community Center and Madison Community Center for residents without power and has designated park property locations for temporary tree-debris staging and temporary trash drop-off sites.
Odom also said site work at Fort Negley will begin this week and that the reopening of Old Hickory Community Center is rescheduled for March 21 at 11 a.m. Board members and staff thanked park personnel for the ongoing response and recovery work.
The chair adjourned the meeting after accepting motions to close.
