Mayor Brad Bark read a proclamation declaring February 2026 as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month in Muscatine, citing national data and calling for community engagement to prevent dating abuse among adolescents.
Cece, survivor services supervisor at Family Resources, accepted the proclamation and described the agency’s free and confidential services for youth and adult survivors. She told the council that "1 in 3 teens" in the United States experiences some form of dating abuse — emotional, physical or digital — and urged schools, families and community organizations to promote healthy, respectful relationships.
Mayor Bark thanked Cece and Family Resources for their work. The proclamation was placed on the record; no formal council motion was required for the ceremonial proclamation.
Family Resources requested continued community support for education and survivor services; the council acknowledged the request and moved on to the business portion of the agenda.
