Tonganoxie council approves routine purchases and permits, including fire-station generator and two outfitted dump trucks

Fire station generator: Mr. Porter described a budgeted 2026 initiative to add living-quarter coverage at the fire station and presented two quotes that differed in capacity. He recommended the slightly higher-priced generator to match the brand on-site for maintenance efficiency. A motion to authorize purchase of a 26 kW generator from Absolute Comfort Technologies Inc. for an amount not to exceed $14,490 passed by voice vote.
Recreation Commission license: The council authorized the city manager to execute the 2026 temporary license agreement with the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission to use city facilities for Kansas Hunter Education courses. Brad Echols of the Recreation Commission said the classes historically charge $5 for residents and are run by volunteers; he described the partnership as a long-standing collaboration.
Temporary CMB permit: Council approved a temporary cereal malt beverage permit for VFW Post 9271 to host a fundraising event on Feb. 13, 2026 at 910 East 1st Street; Mr. Porter said the applicant had state approval and paid the required fees.
Public Works equipment: Council authorized staff to outfit two 2027 Freightliner trucks via American Equipment Company for a total amount not to exceed $169,404 and to authorize sale of two 2007 International dump trucks (and associated equipment) on Purple Wave upon activation of the new vehicles.
Playground recommendation: The council heard a Recreation Commission recommendation to select Cunningham Recreation (partnering with GameTime) for the Chieftain Park playground after a competitive RFQ process. Staff emphasized that council was not being asked to approve a contract at this meeting; rather they were being asked to support moving forward with negotiations and bring a contract back for formal approval.
All motions were carried by voice vote with no roll-call tallies recorded in the transcript.
