Superintendent (speaker 5) updated the Warren Township High School District 121 board on the district's student engagement efforts and a newly compiled 10-year facility plan.
The superintendent said the district is refreshing its student representative process and will invite freshmen through seniors to serve on campus school improvement teams, run focus groups during lunch, and consider student roles on the district diversity committee and as social media ambassadors. "We're sending out invitations to them this week," the superintendent said, emphasizing multiple ways students can contribute to board-level discussions.
On facilities, the superintendent presented the district's 10-year plan, noting an illustrative planning figure of about $4,000,000 per year to address deferred maintenance and to provide predictable scheduling of larger projects. The superintendent said the plan now includes an executive summary and that the district will provide annual updates, with finance committee meetings in late fall to align bids and budgeting timelines.
Board members asked clarifying questions about prioritization and timing; the superintendent said larger projects would return to the board for discussion. The presentation was informational; the board did not take formal action on the plan at this meeting but was asked to review materials before future finance committee and board discussions.
The superintendent praised staff work on the plan and acknowledged Christopher (staff) for contributions to completion.
