The Warren Township High School District 121 Board of Education approved a resolution authorizing the district’s final aggregate tax levy for 2024 at its Dec. 17 meeting.
During a public hearing before the vote, a district finance presenter identified as Chris outlined the levy process and key inputs used to set the request. He said the district requested a 4.98% levy increase for 2024 but does not expect to collect that full amount; the district expects to receive at least the consumer price index figure of 3.4% for the tax year. Chris said equalized assessed valuation rose about 9.9% after exemptions and appeals and staff estimated $4.4 million in new construction for the tax year. He gave a homeowner example: the district portion of the property tax bill for a $400,000 market-value home would increase by about $128 annually under the district’s estimate.
Board members had no public testimony to consider before moving the resolution to a formal vote. The resolution approved the certificate of tax levy and separate levy components for special education and the IMRF/Social Security reporting; the board approved the motion by roll call.
The levy request the board approved is the district’s formal resolution to submit a final tax levy; the actual amount collected depends on later county and state equalization processes and will be lower than the requested 4.98% rate, the presenter said.
The board’s vote on the levy was recorded during the meeting’s roll call and the motion carried.
The board indicated the final levy will be added to the formal Dec. 17 meeting record and the tax certificate filed with Lake County as required by statute. No statutory citations beyond the presented resolution were raised during the hearing.
