Harrison County approves $2.5 million budget to finish southern rail-trail segments, asks for Route 19 cost estimate

The Harrison County Commission voted to budget $2,500,000 to finish portions of the Southern Rail Trail, directing the county's engineering consultant to combine the new work with an existing contract and to provide a separate cost estimate for the Route 19 interchange.
After an executive-session review of contracts, commissioners said the approved funding is intended to complete the trail segment "from the Mount Clare Fire Department to the VA Park" and to Lost Creek, while the Route 19 crossing remains a separate unfunded item that requires additional contract work. Commissioners asked Thrasher to return with the interchange/bridge cost in a few weeks, and staff said that once that figure is provided the commission will vote on the crossing contract separately.
Commissioners noted that, aside from the Route 19 crossing, the legs to Salem and to Lost Creek would be essentially fully budgeted once the $2.5 million is allocated. The commission carried the motion by voice vote with no opposition.
