Board approves consent agenda, adopts policy updates and recesses to closed session

At the Jan. 21 meeting the board approved its consent agenda, which included monthly transaction and fund-balance reports for December 2025, the expenditure and projected payroll report for January 2026, approval of board minutes (regular and closed session) and authorization to destroy certain closed-session tapes from 2021. The consent agenda also included personnel items—several FMLA leaves and resignations—that the board approved by roll call.

Rachel Merricken reported highlights from the policy committee, noting several updates: making student-growth measures optional in teacher evaluations to align with recent changes to the Illinois School Code; adding audit-submission language; including drug- and alcohol-education and online-safety language where applicable; and updating a bullying policy to reference cyberbullying and the use of artificial intelligence. The board conducted first readings of a large package of policy revisions recommended by the Illinois Association of School Boards and later approved a second reading and adoption for another set of policies as presented.

Finally, the board approved a motion to recess to closed session to discuss appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees and collective negotiating matters as permitted by the Illinois Open Meetings Act (statutory citations were read into the record). The public streaming of the meeting paused and attendees were told they could remain or leave while the board met in closed session.
