Addison SD 4 presents tentative FY25 budget showing roughly $59 million in revenue; public hearing set for Aug. 21

Assistant superintendent of business Mrs. Morghese presented the Addison SD 4 tentative budget for fiscal year 2025, saying the district expects total revenue of about $59,000,000 and an education fund increase of roughly 6% driven largely by salaries and benefits.

Morghese said revenue sources are roughly 65% local, 26% state and 9% federal after exhaustion of ESSER funds. She explained a reallocation of some operations dollars into transportation because the transportation fund ran negative this year, and said the district placed approximately $2,000,000 in the operations budget for planned HVAC work while it awaits possible reimbursement.

On program highlights, Morghese said the district will continue investing in instructional technology, supply purchases for students (classroom instructional supplies and consumables such as tissues), and facility lighting projects that are expected to begin immediately. She said the district’s universal free breakfast and lunch plan is through the National School Lunch Program and, because the district qualifies with more than 60% free and reduced eligibility, the district expects to recover most food‑service costs.

Board finance chair Chris reported the finance committee met July 8 and that FY24 results were better than the originally projected deficit; he characterized the FY25 budget as conservative and noted that planned capital spending relies on previously saved reserves.

The board voted to place the tentative FY25 budget on display and authorized the assistant superintendent of business to proceed with public notification; a public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 21. The display and hearing are steps required by Illinois budget law prior to final adoption.
