Captain Gonzales (presenting) highlighted the department’s community engagement — including a citizens academy, participation in Dia de los Muertos and a trunk-or-treat — and recognized deputies and a cadet for service. The department reported 3,488 assigned calls for service and 1,894 observed contacts, with 30 felony arrests and 57 misdemeanor arrests during the quarter. Parking citations totaled 2,309.
The department described a two‑week drone‑as‑first‑responder pilot and said the drone aided at least one incident (identifying e‑bikers damaging park turf) that enabled officers to locate and arrest suspects. The presentation also noted a decrease in contacts involving homelessness and mental‑health nexus, attributing some of that change to partnership programs.
Councilmembers asked about drone pilot training and certification; the department said pilots attend FAA training and there are varying certification levels among about 10 trained operators. The department will provide additional data on traffic enforcement indexes in a future quarterly report.
What’s next: The department will report traffic enforcement index details and continue community outreach and pilot evaluations; a bike/e‑bike safety course is scheduled.
