Rio Rancho board recognizes student and staff arts achievements, and Lincoln Middle School cross-country champs

Several students and staff were honored at the Rio Rancho Public Schools Board meeting on Nov. 3, including winners of state and national-level arts and athletics awards.
Doctor Kurt Schmidt introduced art recognitions, announcing that Ava Cisneros won the New Mexico State Fair Art Show for her division and that teacher Natalie Hardcastle supports her work. Cisneros thanked the board and said she is considering pursuing art beyond high school.
The board also recognized Miguel Jaramillo, choir director at Lincoln Middle School, as a 2025 Golden Apple Foundation Teacher of Distinction. Jaramillo thanked his nominators and the district for professional-development support.
Jocelyn Salas was honored as the New Mexico Art Education Association’s 2026 Elementary Art Teacher of the Year. The board highlighted her background, exhibitions and service and Salas thanked administrators and colleagues.
In athletics, Todd Resch and Coach Keith Gerard were recognized after the Lincoln Middle School boys cross-country team won the NMAA middle-school state championship; district staff said the team finished ahead of a field of roughly 336 runners representing more than 60 schools.
The board applauded the student and staff accomplishments and posed for photos with honorees.
