Duncanville ISD board updates bond work and approves copiers, playgrounds and cafeteria furniture purchases

DUNCANVILLE, Texas — The Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees on June 16 received an update on bond-project packages and approved several procurement actions using bond savings and cooperative purchasing agreements.
Mrs. Fields summarized progress on bond packages: packages 1 and 2 are in construction, package 3 is complete, and design work is underway for ancillary buildings including the Smith Early Learning Academy. A video and design preview for Central Elementary were shown as administrators prepare to solicit bids; staff said 12 contractors are actively pursuing the Central Elementary project.
Architect Andre Brackens reviewed the Smith Early Learning Academy’s immersive learning design, describing themed spaces such as ocean, transportation, construction, space and plant-life environments to support early childhood wayfinding and hands-on exploration.
On procurement, the board approved three notable purchases:
- A move to Canon copier/printer equipment through the DIR purchasing cooperative for $316,563.84; CFO Brandy Mayo said the change reduces the fleet from 152 to 97 machines and is expected to save roughly $60,000 per year. The contract includes Uniflow and PaperCut print-management capabilities.
- Purchase of playground equipment for Daniel Elementary ($173,818.03) and Hardin Elementary ($174,490.98) from Leah Park and Play (BuyBoard cooperative) for a total of $348,309.01, to be funded from bond savings.
- Purchase of 550 cafeteria tables from National Public Seating/Indeco for multiple elementary and middle schools and Pace High School at a total of $605,245, also funded from bond savings; administrators emphasized the furniture will improve custodial efficiency and campus dining spaces.
Each procurement motion passed unanimously (6–0). Bond-construction staffing and temporary high-school portables remain in active construction phases as work continues over the summer.
