Duncanville ISD approves new automotive lab equipment and eight replacement district vehicles

Dr. Samuel Nicks described the automotive lab as last updated in 2001 and said the district sought industry-standard equipment (brake lathe, aligner, alignment rack) with vendor training included. Staff said three quotes were received and NorthStar was the lowest-cost option that also provides installation and training.
Winston Minnick, director of CTE, said delivery and installation are expected in June and noted that current machinery cannot be used to work on newer vehicles. Trustees voted 7-0 to approve the purchase.
Separately, the board approved purchase of eight replacement white-fleet vehicles through a cooperative vendor; presenters said the district maintains about 70 white-fleet vehicles across six departments and that the eight selected units (2023'2025 model years) replace vehicles averaging 17 years old. The recommended purchase total was $364,806 and the motion passed 7-0.
Administration said replaced vehicles would be auctioned where feasible and that warranties and model-year closeout savings were included in vendor proposals. Both actions were framed as safety and operational upgrades tied to bond and current-year funds.
