DUNCANVILLE, Texas — At its June 16 meeting, the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees honored Chief of Staff Andre Fields ahead of her retirement and introduced several leadership hires, including the district’s new chief of police and chief financial officer.
Superintendent Lamar Goree announced Fields will retire effective June 30 after a 46-year career in public education, 38 years in leadership positions and service to Duncanville ISD since 2016. Goree called Fields “a true servant leader” and thanked her for steady strategic guidance across departments.
Administration introduced Stephen Max Garen as the district’s permanent chief of police after he served as interim chief. The board administered the oath of office for the police chief during the meeting. Brandy Mayo and Mrs. Brown said Garen brings 35 years in law enforcement, including 27 years with the Dallas Police Department and prior chief roles in Rockwall and other agencies.
The board also introduced Darla Moss as chief financial officer, effective July 1; Moss was described as a career school-finance leader with prior CFO roles in Arlington ISD and experience managing bond programs. Christopher Malone was presented as the new executive director of technology, and William Henderson as head track coach for the district.
After returning from closed session, the board took formal action to approve the superintendent’s recommendation to issue a one-year contract to Antoine White as deputy police chief; the motion passed unanimously (6–0). The meeting then moved on to bond and procurement items.
What’s next: the district transitions incoming leaders into their roles in July and continues ongoing hiring and onboarding work tied to the 2025–26 school year.
