Board approves online tutoring contract to expand intervention using Title I funds

The board approved a purchase over $50,000 for an online tutoring provider, Tutor by Teachers, to support intervention in elementary schools and one middle school using Title I and rollover Title I funds. Administration described the program as a virtual tutoring model that runs small groups (about five students per group) or 1-on-1 sessions, ideally three 30-minute sessions per week, and emphasized student identification, focused TEKS (high-leverage standards) and monitoring by pre/post tests, MAP assessments and weekly exit tickets.

Doctor Nix and Miss Hernandez explained the district has used the vendor previously at three campuses and has now expanded participation to additional campuses because of available Title I funds. Hernandez said the district identified 525 students grouped into cohorts and mapped high-leverage TEKS for each grade; she provided a February 2 to April 6 implementation window for the program. Administration noted tutors are certified teachers, the company provides near‑real‑time reports, and principals and campus leaders will manage operations and progress monitoring.

The transcript records an unclear dollar string during presentation (both "$144,000" and "$909,180" are referenced); administrators said purchases would be made from Title I operating funds and rollover funds. The board approved the item unanimously.
