Summary
Trustees reorganized leadership, electing Jackie Colton as board president, and approved one-year contracts for the chief of police, chief financial officer and executive director of technology in unanimous votes.
Jackie Colton was elected president of the Duncanville ISD Board of Trustees during the board's May 19 meeting and immediately took the chair as trustees completed a reorganization. Trustee Phil McNeely nominated Colton; the board voted electronically and the motion carried.
The board also approved superintendent recommendations to issue one-year contracts for several senior administrators. Trustees voted 7-0 to approve a one-year contract for Max Garen as chief of police, a one-year contract for Darla Moss as chief financial officer and a one-year contract for Christopher Malone as executive director of technology.
Colton, who had just been sworn in earlier in the meeting, told trustees she was "just overwhelmed" and pledged to "do our very best to make sure that we serve the students and the staff well." The board conducted electronic voting for the appointments following the superintendent's presentations.
Moss is scheduled to appear before the board at the next meeting as part of onboarding and transition; the superintendent presented each contract as a recommendation from district leadership. The actions were presented as routine personnel approvals following closed session and conclude the board's reorganization for the 2024'25 cycle.
