Three public commenters used the June 11 board meeting to press administrators on employee treatment and facilities transparency.
A classroom support worker identified in the meeting as Larissa addressed trustees about repeated transfers she said followed her advocacy for students and participation in protests supporting immigrant families. "I've watched kids be punished for their trauma," she said, urging the district to give behavioral intervention aides more training, support and trauma-informed leadership rather than transferring staff who raise concerns.
Longtime district employee Cornelio Cortez said he has worked for Anaheim Elementary for 27 years in the warehouse and purchasing department and had applied 40 times for posted openings without success. Cortez said he was denied a test reschedule while recovering from a broken ankle and was given no written explanation for failing a hands-on skills test he had previously passed. He asked the board for accountability, transparency and assistance in resolving what he described as being "passed over."
Santo Sandoval, an executive PTA board member at Gwyn Elementary, asked when the facilities master plan (approved March 2021) will be updated and raised concerns that some schools are receiving only temporary fixes. He requested clearer public updates about project priorities and why some campuses appear not to be listed as priorities.
Board members and staff acknowledged the concerns and offered to follow up: staff said they would connect with commenters to provide details about hiring/test procedures and to explain the facilities planning and bond draw process.
