Cecilia Romand, Director of School, Family and Community Engagement, reported to the board that the Anaheim Elementary Succeeds (AES) after‑school and camp programs served roughly 9,500 students this year and that program engagement and satisfaction are high.
Romand said the district ran in-house camps and reported about 3,300 June registrations (with 886 already signed up for July) and that approximately 9,267 participants accessed at least one enrichment offering in AES. She described survey outcomes from spring ELOP results—3,312 respondents across students, parents and staff—including 94% of parents calling AES a valuable service and 83% of students saying they can get homework help when needed.
Romand credited certificated TOSAs embedded in after‑school programming, targeted professional development for classified staff (30 hours on average), and partnerships with outside providers for the program’s reach. Proposed actions for the coming year include continuing targeted tutoring tied to data analysis, focusing on chronic absenteeism, and piloting a new Scholastic curriculum called "Rising Voices" to get books into students’ hands.
Board members praised the program’s scale and equity focus and asked staff to continue broad outreach and to publicize opportunities for parents to engage with strategic planning for arts and after‑school services.
