Summary
The Town of Cave Creek voted 7‑0 on Feb. 3 to accept a revised non‑motorized public trail pathway easement for the Art and Stone property at 6820 E. Cave Creek Road so the finished trail can meander around existing utility boxes; staff described the change as a safety improvement.
On Feb. 3, 2026, the Town of Cave Creek council unanimously approved a revised non‑motorized public trail pathway easement for the Art and Stone commercial property at 6820 E. Cave Creek Road.
Town staff told the council that during construction the original easement did not accommodate the finished trail because of existing electrical utility boxes on the southeast corner of the property. The owner agreed to a boundary revision that staff said would accommodate the pathway without relocating utilities; staff estimated the revised area at about 500 square feet.
A town staff member explained the change was primarily a practical adjustment to avoid moving electrical equipment: “During the construction of the pathway and through modification of the owner's driveway, the existing easement was not adequate to accommodate the location of a trail,” the staff member said. Staff credited public works and a subcontractor for cooperative work on curb and concrete improvements.
Councilmembers asked clarifying questions about property location and project history; the owner was identified in the discussion as George Pignatore. No members of the public spoke on the agenda item. The mayor moved to accept the easement as described in the staff report; a second was given and the motion carried 7‑0.
Council members described the pathway as a major safety improvement in a busy part of town, where pedestrians had previously walked in the roadway on weekend evenings. The easement acceptance completes the town's formal step to record the revised boundary so the pathway can remain in its constructed alignment.
Next steps include final recording of the revised easement area and any administrative steps by town staff to update maps and maintenance responsibilities.
